Happy National Quilting Day!

Today I celebrated National Quilting Day with a visit to the Music City Modern Quilt Guild!

February 2013 dGS Imagine: Brackets Quilt Top

I brought along a recent finish, my first quilt top for do. Good Stitches. Can you spy my piecing "fail"? Regardless, I'm still happy with the way this one turned out, and the colors are perfect for spring and St. Patrick's Day!

Here's an art quilt from Music City MQG member Royce. The texture on this one is just beautiful, with sashiko stitching in the hills, raw edge applique on the skirt, textured leaves on the trees and straight line stitching up the side. I love her techniques!

Here is a quilt top Nancy (right) whipped up for her own bed. Oh, you know, she just free-formed all the letters. No big deal or anything! Nancy and I moved from the Indianapolis area to Nashville around the same time, so I was excited that we could check out our new local guild together.

My sewing friend Veronica joined us at the meeting, too, and she is looking to get into quilting. You can check out the rest of my photos from the meeting on Flickr.

Earlier this week, I got to meet up with some other local sewing bloggers and their fams for a trip to the zoo! I love zoos (even bought myself a membership), so it was a fun time for sure. I sure miss the girls of the Indy MQG and my friends up north, but I am slowly, but surely, finding "my peeps" in my new city. :)

Are you doing anything special to celebrate National Quilting Day?

  1. Can't spot the fail, so you've obviously hidden it well! Love the art quilt and the big quilt from the meeting. I bought some of that Cori Dantini fabric ages ago planning to make some art bags, so it's interesting to see what your friend made with it :o)

  2. I didn't realize you moved to Nashville! (Or maybe I forgot?) My parents live there and I visit all the time. We'll have to get together!

  3. I'm going to be in Nashville in a few weeks to visit my best friend! Have you found any nice quilt shops yet? I'd love to know which ones you recommend so I can make a stop at one or two of them :)

  4. I will be making another Block 1 for Amy Smart's Virtual Quilting Bee. A great way to celebrate Nat'l Quilting Day!

  6. Glad I'm not the only one who can't see a fail... And I looked hard. They always appear worse when your making it.
We need to cut ourselves some slack some times. After all isn't the imperfect why it's hand made. If you want patterns to line perfectly just buy a printed quilt. But it won't quite be the same.
    Love those colours.

  8. Great job on the dGS quilt, Lindsay! So glad you are enjoying Nashville and meeting fun friends. I remember loving the zoo there, though I was probably in jr high the last time I went!

  10. So good to meet you yesterday, Lindsay, and I loved seeing this quilt in person! I cannot see a piecing fail either, but since I'm totally stumped and it's got me going crazy, I'm going to go out on a limb (is there a prize?) and say maybe you didn't mean to put C1/R5 and C2/R5 next to each other? I have a real piecing fail myself, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nowwerecookiejenny/8078984368/in/set-72157626713101756. And actually the back of that quilt was a piecing fail, too -- I'm kind of a regular in the flickr Fail group.
